Role of an Acme Parent
Please Don’t…
While parents are crucial part of Acme’s success, we hope for a very different form of parental support than other organizations. Because of Acme’s commitment to youth independence and leadership, we ask that parents support their company members by resisting the temptation to “help.”
Although it can be difficult, we ask that adults refrain from:
Designing or building technical elements
Building set/prop/costume pieces
Offering unasked-for advice
“Saving the day”
Unless there are safety or health concerns, we want to allow the students to make, and learn from, their own mistakes and take full ownership for their successes.
Please Do… Through the years, Acme parents and community supporters have sustained the company in a wide variety of unsung ways. Here’s how you can show and spread the Acme love.
Applaud, Congratulate and Spread the Word - Attend Acme’s productions, bringing family, friends, co-workers. Publicize Acme at work, church, social clubs and networks, etc.
Drive - Driving your company member on shopping trips is appreciated. Driving, or loaning us, a large vehicle to transport tools and materials is SUPER helpful.
Bring Food - Tech week dinners and Intermission Concessions are much appreciated (contact the Parent Liaison or Stage Manager).
Host - Opening your home for ACE/Production meetings, cast parties, costume or set construction, or host an Acme guest artist.
Chaperone - The ACE Retreat and Oregon Shakespeare Festival Trip are two events where parent chaperones are needed.
Consider Making a Financial Donations - Your donation allows us to continue offering this comprehensive educational theatre experience, free of charge, to the young people in our community. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation, checks can be mailed to Acme Theatre Company at PO Box 159, Davis CA 9561
Acme Parent Orientations As a parent, you may be accustomed to more structured activities and more constant, clear communication. You may feel frustrated or concerned by what appears to be a free-wheeling atmosphere. You may want to support your student’s Acme passion, but be unclear on the best appropriate ways to support the company’s endeavors. If so, please be assured that you are not alone.
We encourage you to attend our Acme Parent orientation, scheduled at the start of each season in March.
