ACME AUDITION FAQ:

Who can audition?
Auditions are open to all 9th - 12th grade students.

What do I have to do?
The audition process generally involves:

1) Emailing the Stage Manager to sign up for an individual 10-minute audition
2) Fill out an audition form
3) Join our electronic message-board
2) Prepare a monologue. Usually, a packet of monologues is provided. You should be familiar with your monologue, but memorization is not required.
3) Present your monologue and submit your form at the audition.
Following individual auditions, actors may be called back for a group audition session. The cast list is then posted on-line.

How do I prepare my monologue?
Read through the monologue several times and rehearse it by yourself. Play with different ways of saying the words. Try it sitting down, lying down, while doing jumping jacks. The important thing is to get comfortable reading it a lot of different ways, and then choose what you think feels best. Don't be afraid to make big choices!

What’s the deal with the audition form?
The deal is that it is important! Please allow time to fill it out. Especially the conflict form. Please mark all of your conflicts, so we know when you are available to rehearse.

Are auditions terrifying and stressful?
Well, the goal is to keep them as fun and light-hearted as possible. Remember, the director and stage manager want to cast great show. They are cheering for you and have their fingers-crossed that you will be great! If you are feeling terrified, it may help to remember that everyone else is feeling vulnerable as well. And company members generally go out of their way to encourage and support each other through the process.

I didn’t get called-back, what does that mean?
This means that the director does not need to see you read any further. You may or may not be cast.

I didn’t get cast, does that mean I’m not in the company?
Not at all. Many company members are not cast at their first audition. Although there may not be space for you in the cast, you are strongly encouraged to help out on the show and participate in company events.
